The Golf Ball Business
As a kid, I washed golf balls on the deck at Lochside, often driving a hard bargain for the coveted Titleist Pro V1s.

Owen is Living

The people, places, obsessions and ordinary moments that made me—and the ones still making me.
The chapters so far
These are arranged as chapters, not a ledger: growing up, seeing more of the world, finding photography and building a life with the people who stayed. Some moments have exact dates. The oldest ones only need to be remembered.
The 1990s–2000s
Boats, snow, animals, family trips and small enterprises—the ordinary pieces of growing up that only become precious later.
As a kid, I washed golf balls on the deck at Lochside, often driving a hard bargain for the coveted Titleist Pro V1s.
May 2008
At Jackfish Lake near North Battleford, Saskatchewan, I caught a pretty decent-sized fish. I learned afterward that you are supposed to hold the fish toward the camera so it looks bigger. 😅
2011–2014
Life after high school brought travel, snow days and new adventures. The camera started coming everywhere, and the snapshots began to feel less like records and more like my own story.
January 2011
While visiting my aunt and uncle in Australia, I got to play fetch with their dog.
February 2011
During my trip to Australia, I spent time with three of my cousins.

Moving to Atkins, bringing Boo, Jack and eventually Cleo into our family, and filling the years with trips, home, work and everything still unfolding. This chapter is still being written.

At an island music festival, I used a tripod and a slow shutter speed to capture lasers glowing through the fog and outlining the forest canopy. It was an amazing experience and remains one of my favourite photographs.
Being behind the camera means I am rarely the subject. This remains one of my favourite portraits of me at Jordan River in my mid-20s.
October 2022
On our honeymoon in Scotland, we visited the Fairy Pools on the Isle of Skye. I used a neutral-density filter to capture the movement of the cascading water.

A second view from the Fairy Pools, where the clear waters flow beneath the Cuillin mountains.
When Boo and Jack first arrived, I built them a catio beneath the deck at Atkins where they could watch the birds and wildlife outside.
Boo and Jack—the boys—cuddled together on the futon in the catio beneath our deck at Atkins.
The view across Esquimalt Harbour is one of the gifts of living at Atkins—a daily reminder of how lucky I am to call this place home.
Living at Atkins gave me the opportunity to try beekeeping. This was my first hive, with bees returning to the entrance carrying pollen.
A coastal view from our first anniversary in Tofino, overlooking a small island that can be reached on foot at low tide.
In Tofino, I used a graduated neutral-density filter and long exposure to smooth the movement of the waves over the rocks.
Another sunset in Tofino, from a later anniversary trip to the coast.
Jack’s first real snowfall had him running and diving through the snow. It’s something he enjoys a little less now that he’s older.
Boo loves finding little hiding places to sleep, often blending in so well that we do not realize he is there.
This is Jack checking out the strawberry plants we planted in front of the gazebo at Atkins.
